Cemeteries relocation
The Badgerys Creek Anglican and Uniting Church cemeteries were relocated to allow construction to commence on the airport site. The relocation was completed in December 2017.
The cemeteries had been closed to new burials since the Commonwealth acquired the land in the 1980s.
The relocation of the cemeteries was managed by the Australian Government, in consultation with families, churches and relevant New South Wales agencies to ensure the relocation was undertaken respectfully and in accordance with the wishes of families.
The Badgerys Creek Memorial Cemetery, including memorial plaque and garden, was established at Leppington to provide a lasting reminder of the history of the Badgerys Creek community and all those laid to rest at the Badgerys Creek Anglican and Uniting Church cemeteries.
